The Exposition

During a short stint living in Tampa, FL, Jake Lloyd Bacon sparked creative relationships with University of Tampa film student Christian Perkins and Brazilian Director of Photography Felipe Scaldini, which led to the first projects under the Three Principles name. The first was a proof of concept trailer and pitch documentary for a proposed Montgomery Clift biopic called The Right Profile in 2008 produced by Bacon and Perkins, followed by the short film Feels Just Like It Should in 2009 produced by Bacon and Scaldini.

In late 2009, Bacon moved to Los Angeles and while working on the set of the FOX series, 24, he befriended actors Tony Wayne and Kenny Cooper, sparking continued independent creative endeavors and collaborations. Since then, the 3P family has grown exponentially with countless creatives working together on various web series, shorts, and the first 3P feature film, Pinch, available now on Prime Video or on Blu-ray in our shop!

Modus Operandi

The leaps and bounds that have been made in digital imaging have provided filmmakers with opportunities that didn't exist just 15 years ago. Even when we don't have the budget we might like to have, or top-of-the-line production equipment, there's no reason we can't still tell an engaging story or capture a ridiculous joke, and make something that people enjoy. Three Principles has always aimed to be ambitious with the resources at our disposal. Whether it's forcing ourselves to learn or invent new techniques, building the un-buildable, or taking risks, "we can't do that" is not a phrase often spoken during any Three Principles production.

All we can hope for is that at the end of all the hard work we succeed, even if just a little, at entertaining you or making you feel something.

What does “Three Principles” mean?

The name is nearly 20 years old and is inspired somehow by both a sculpture by Auguste Rodin… and bicycles.

You’ll have to corner me in a dark room for the full illogical breakdown and connections, but the very short answer is:

Gravity, momentum, & friction.

In a very literal sense, those are the three principles that all must work in unison to make a bicycle stay upright. In a metaphorical sense, they’re also the three principles that I believe must work together to tell a great story, or make great art.
